| Giving IPTV users the best experience By Sanjay Castelino Published: July 11 2005 03:00 | Last updated: July 11 2005 03:00 From Mr Sanjay Castelino. Sir, It is commendable to see BT setting a date for the launch of its IPTV offering (report, June 29). Undoubtedly, the future of television lies in internet protocol. But before avid TV watchers can gain the most of this new entertainment technology, providers must ensure their service can deliver on expectations. Analysts estimate that as much as 20 per cent of revenue generated from inherently more complex IPTV services is likely to be consumed by support costs. As a result, providers are using new types of IPTV management technology that automatically installs services and diagnoses and repairs problems - all while shielding users from the complexities of the underlying technology. Building this kind of management intelligence into IPTV services will ensure that customers get the experience they expect, while allowing providers to control operating costs and maximise their profit. Only those providers that can offer the best passenger experience in the IPTV bandwagon will thrive. Sanjay Castelino, Vice President Industry Marketing, Motive, Austin, TX 78759, US | ||||||||||
